EAST RANCHO DOMINGUEZ, California — The story of the East Rancho Dominguez Library traces part of the community’s twentieth-century history. The branch, formerly known as East Compton Library, began service on March 17, 1952, with a collection of 4,860 books. Its original site was on South Atlantic Avenue, according to LA County Library’s official branch history.
The library moved as community demand grew, expanded its earlier building in 1963, and eventually opened its present facility at 4420 East Rose Street, East Rancho Dominguez, CA 90221, on October 29, 2012. The 7,215-square-foot building was designed with solar panels and earned LEED Platinum certification, which the county describes as a first for a county-owned facility at the time.
What residents can use
The county lists a meeting room with capacity for 70 people, a smaller study room, a Spanish-language collection, children’s learning resources and public computers. A household battery recycling site is also listed. Residents should confirm any collection or drop-off rules and current facility access with branch staff.
Resources and community help
East Rancho Dominguez Library is one of the branches participating in LA County Library’s LEAP partnership with the Department of Mental Health. It helps connect community members with information and referrals about essential services. Support staff schedules vary; residents should call ahead rather than expect a specialist to be available at any time.
How to contact the branch
The official library page lists (310) 632-6193 and provides current opening hours, online catalog and meeting-room policies. The history of the building is a local public-interest subject in its own right, but a current event or facility closure needs a separate, dated announcement.
